Ned N. Fleming, III
Managing Partner

Ned N. Fleming, III is a founding partner and the Managing Partner of SunTx Capital Partners. As Managing Partner, he is responsible for the general management of SunTx Capital Partners. Mr. Fleming has over 20 years experience as an operating executive and investor in middle-market companies. He has operated and invested in industrial and consumer sectors including basic materials manufacturing, avionics, restaurants, food manufacturing and distribution, sports franchising, construction, security, automotive and insurance.

Mr. Fleming holds a BA from Stanford University and an MBA from Harvard University.

Richard J. Boyle
Partner

Richard J. Boyle is a founding partner at SunTx and has over 30 years experience building and operating businesses. Mr. Boyle has built, managed and sold many middle-market enterprises while an executive at Honeywell Corporation and LTV Aerospace and Defense Corporation including businesses in the aerospace, automotive, computing, controls and defense industries.

Mr. Boyle’s article, “Wrestling with Jellyfish” (Harvard Business Review, January-February 1984), was the winner of the McKinsey Award for Excellence in 1990 and 1992 and was reprinted in 2002. Mr. Boyle received his engineering degree from Marquette University.

Craig J. Jennings
Partner & CFO

Craig J. Jennings is a founding partner at SunTx and brings over 20 years of operating and investment experience to the SunTx team. He has invested in and held management positions in companies in basic materials, consumer products, security, automotive and oilfield services industries. As a partner, he is responsible for sourcing, structuring, and negotiating transactions, as well as monitoring and exiting portfolio investments. As Chief Financial Officer of SunTx Capital Partners, Mr. Jennings is also responsible for the finance, treasury and reporting functions of the firm.

Mr. Jennings holds a BBA from University of Toledo and is a Certified Public Accountant.

Mark R. Matteson
Partner

Mark R. Matteson is a founding partner at SunTx and brings over 15 years of operating and investment experience to the SunTx team. He has invested in and held management positions in companies in basic materials, light and heavy manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, and insurance industries. As a partner, he is responsible for sourcing, structuring, and negotiating transactions as well as monitoring and exiting portfolio investments.

Mr. Matteson holds a BA from the Pennsylvania State University and an MBA from Georgetown University.

Benjamin D. Eakes
Principal 

Benjamin Eakes joined the SunTx Capital Partners investment team in 2002. Prior to joining SunTx, Mr. Eakes worked as a Consultant at Bain & Company. As a consultant with Bain & Company, he focused on mergers and acquisitions, business unit strategy, strategic resource allocation and market entry strategies.

Mr. Eakes holds a BBA and BA magna cum laude in Finance and Public Policy, respectively, from Southern Methodist University where he received the SMU Hunt Leadership Scholarship.

Michael D. Ilagan
Principal 

Michael Ilagan joined the SunTx Capital Partners investment team in 2006.  Prior to joining SunTx, Mr. Ilagan worked as a consultant at Bain & Company, Inc., where he advised leading consumer product companies on product line strategies and manufacturing companies on cost reduction strategies. Mr. Ilagan also worked as the Chief Operating Officer of a healthcare services company and practiced law for Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP, where he focused on mergers and acquisitions and corporate restructurings.

Mr. Ilagan holds an A.B./M.B.A. joint degree in Economics from the University of Chicago. Mr. Ilagan also earned a J.D. from Chicago-Kent College of Law's Evening Division.  Mr. Ilagan is admitted to practice law with the bars in California and Illinois.

Jason L. Jelen
Principal

Jason Jelen joined SunTx Capital Partners investment team in 2000.

Prior to SunTx, Mr. Jelen worked at a publicly traded materials manufacturing concern as an Analyst, where he focused on mergers and acquisitions and business development. Previously, Mr. Jelen worked within the Securitization Department at Bank One Corporation.

Mr. Jelen holds a BBA in Finance from Texas A&M University and an MBA from Southern Methodist University.

Kai Chen
Associate 

Kai Chen joined the SunTx Capital Partners in 2007. Prior to joining SunTx, Mr. Chen was a portfolio analyst at Highland Capital Management, L.P., where he managed the monthly valuation process of Highland Capital’s investments in illiquid assets, such as private equity, distressed debt and collateral debt obligations. Mr. Chen also served on the Highland Global Pricing Committee that reviews and evaluates the valuation analyses for all illiquid assets on monthly basis. Previously, Mr. Chen worked as a financial analyst at Accenture.

Michael Seay
Associate 

Michael Seay joined the SunTx Capital Partners in 2007. Prior to joining SunTx, Mr. Seay was a financial analyst in the corporate finance department of Banc of America Securities, LLC.

Brandon Kramm
Analyst

Brandon Kramm joined the SunTx Capital Partners investment team in 2006.

Prior to joining SunTx, Mr. Kramm worked as a consultant at AXA Advisors; while at AXA, he worked in the private wealth management group where he focused on investments (both equity and fixed income), risk management strategies, and financial planning.

Mr. Kramm holds a B.A. in Economics, as well as a Language Citation in Spanish from Harvard College.

Barrett N. Bruce
Vice President - Legal

Barrett Bruce joined SunTx Capital Partners in 2005. Prior to joining SunTx, Mr. Bruce was an associate in the corporate and securities group at Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld, LLP, for seven years. As an associate at Akin Gump, he focused on mergers and acquisitions, finance, venture capital and commercial matters.

Mr. Bruce holds a BA in Economics from the University of Texas at Austin, where he was a National Merit Scholar; as well as a JD, cum laude, from Texas Tech University.
